The recent changes to Google Authenticator has been annoying users. There is visible delay and app crashes which is not an isolated case but it’s frequent.
What are the challenges
- The application launch is slow
- Authenticator relaunch has delayed response as well. Put the app into background and relaunch it back.
- Navigate back from Settings to the main screen takes time
- Display Unlock to App access is delayed
- Navigating back from Recent Activity screen to the home screen is delayed
- Application crashes (this has to be fixed)
There is visible delay in the app and it still hangs frequently which is annoying most of the users, i am sure it’s because of device encryption to storage of secret values (which is great feature, thanks google for getting it done) .
Ideal Solution:
The Settings tab has just “Time correction for codes” and it could have been a setting instead of an important feature being backtracked.
User Expectation :
Some users were ok with click to reveal but delay, hanging & crash is something that users are not ok with especially from an google app and that’s the key issue here which need immediate attention.
Not sure why and how the Google App QA team could slip this release out.
What are the Features that some of the users are asking
- Grace full recovery in case of the loss of phone, format or reinstall (P1)
- Sorting and filtering capability (ease of use)
- Search (some users do have lot of accounts)
- Setting is pretty much available and under utilized here in this app.
